Elephant hill forms the southern tip of the Aberdare ranges, which host the Aberdares National Reserve. It is about 3560 M in altitude, which makes it a suitable pre-hike if you intend to climb higher mountains like Mt.kilimanjaro, Mt.Kenya, Mt.Meru or Mt.Elgon. Also it is the main source of water to the Tana and Athi River.
Difficulty: Moderate to Very High
Trekking Time: 8 hours
Departure Time: 0530hrs at Opp. International Life House
Meet with our expedition crew in Nairobi CBD opp. International Life at 0520hrs for departure.
We will arrive at Njabini forest station which was previously known as Kinangop forest station. This will be our starting point. The first part of the hill is basically flat and bushy; most of this part has been inhabited by human pastoralists who graze their herd.
Then chlorophyll shadows of the exotic giant grass of the bamboo forest will be the next part. The path will be muddy and one can easily fall off. Support from the bamboo trees can be of help to avoid minor accidents. Animal paths evidenced by overt elephant footprints and droppings on the way up the hill, the rangers protect from any danger by the animals.
