Tucked in the middle of South Aberdares is the Kieni forest block. This hike in unique in that it offers one of the most scenic road trips on central Kenya as a bonus. We head out in the morning towards Thika before branching off to a beautiful meandering road with tea farms towards the Aberdares.
We start the hike at a Community resource centre from where the trail heads into lush tea plantations before descending into the well conserved indigenous forest. The trail is friendly but not beaten this being a fresh trail brought by our team.
The forest is beautiful with plenty of tropical trees and plants and the occasional animal sighting. The hike leads you deeper to a water pipe that then takes you to the Kariminu river with its two tall cascading falls. After a short relaxation head out again across the forest to the final smaller waterfall before coming out of the tea plantation and back to start point.
After a hot meal prepared by our bush chef, we drive back via a more scenic route to Nairobi.
