Dragon’s Teeth is a sporadic spread of jagged rocks that rise above the consistently wet moorlands in Northern Aberdares. It is the perfect hike for anyone planning to summit Mt. Kenya. A technical climb in its right, it involves use of chalk bags, ropes, slings, rock-climbing shoes, a lapse of sanity and of course physical and mental strength to endure the tough terrain and freezing weather.
Ol Donyo Le Satima popularly known as Mt. Satima is the 3rd largest mountain in Kenya standing at approximately 4000m ASL is the immediate neighbor to a number of sharp volcanic cones called “the Dragon’s Teeth”. Join us as we taken on this challenge that will most definitely be etched in your mind for years to come and knock off Dragons Teeth and Le Satima from your bucket list.
Difficulty: High Walking Duration: 8 Hours Terrain: Marked moorland trail with tussock grass and bog/marsh in some areas.
Meet for Departure at 0400hrs in the morning promptly.We drive north from Nairobi and a few kilometers after Nyeri, branch off towards the mountains. Be prepared for a long drive generally as the mountain roads take time to climb. Ascend 12km in the mountain to reach an altitude of 3450m at the Twin peaks point. From here you can see the nearby Chebuswa and then proceed on to the Lost Pyramid, Muirs Massive, Weathering Heights, Devil’s Sword, Theater of Heaven and finally the Dragons Teeth with stunning rock formations. After a short rest Bank east towards the high ridges and head towards Satima peak to arrive late in the afternoon. Descend back to the starting point for your return journey to Nairobi.
PS: If time does not allow the expedition will terminate at Dragons Teeth and not Satima.
