Hike Summary

We begin the day with an early morning pick up from Nairobi at 0430hrs and drive north to Chogoria town and onwards to Chogoria Park Gate. The hike starts at the Gate after a short stretch. The trail gets you right into the forest and takes you through the dense forest covered with both indigenous and man-made trees and to the scenic Nithi Falls. The forest is a habit for both wildlife and a wide range of bird species. The hike then proceeds on wet moorlands to the scenic landscape of the breathtaking Lake Ellis 3600m. Take a few mins for photos and enjoy the stunning views. The trail then leads you up through glades of montane forest and giant heather to Mintos Hut 4300m. Return is via the same route to reach the Bandas and drive back to Nairobi to arrive in the early evening.

What To Carry

1. Comfortable hiking shoes with a good grip. Long pants/trousers & long-sleeved hiking t-shirt/light jacket recommended
2. Spare Sports Trainers to complement boots, Sandals, or light shoes for traveling back
3. Plenty of drinking water at least 3 litres
4. Sunhat, Sunscreen, Sunglasses
5. Cameras
6. Any personal medication / Personal first aid items
7. Day Pack /Small Bag to carry your personal items
8. Enough Snacks, fruits, sandwiches, energy bars to last the hike.
9. Proper Rain Gear, in case it rains. i.e. Rain Coat/Poncho/Rain Trousers if available.
10. Mornings can be cold so have a warm Jacket.
11. An identification card or passport: Must
